O’Connor Sutton Cronin is delighted to share that we’ve been shortlisted as a finalist for the 2025 Irish Building and Design Awards in the Heritage & Conservation Project of the Year and Retrofitting / Renovation Project of the Year categories for our Obelisk Bridge Rehabilitation project.

Obelisk Bridge is a historical structure that spans the River Boyne approximately 5 km west of Drogheda. The design of the rehabilitation of the structure by O’Connor Sutton Cronin was focused on maintaining the elegance of the bridge and showcasing the wrought iron lattice girder, which was a particularly innovative design for its time. The bridge’s design is functional and aesthetically pleasing, with its intricate ironwork. The approach from the outset of the project was to understand, model, and refurbish the structure. This was achieved using point cloud survey technology to capture the geometry of the structure with millimetre accuracy. The bridge serves as more than just a crossing; it is a heritage landmark that ties the local community to its historical roots. Its location on the Boyne adds to the rich tapestry of the area, which is renowned for other archaeological and historical treasures. Public interest spotlighted the project from the outset. This project was in collaboration with Louth County Council and Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd, we would like to congratulate the whole team, and we look forward to attending the awards evening which will take place on Friday 4th April 2025.
