Geologist Day takes place on the first Sunday in April and recognises geologists, geochemists, and geophysicists. The work of geologists is fundamental to our understanding of dramatic earth processes such as earthquakes, volcanos, and landslides as well as less noticeable forces such as mountain building, erosion, and sedimentation.

Geologists work in a wide range of industries including energy, agriculture, public safety, mineral resources, environmental quality, the built environment, communication, technology, transportation, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals.
