We are delighted to announce the official opening of the Royal Canal Greenway Phase 3. O’Connor Sutton Cronin’s Project Director, Anthony Horan and team members had the pleasure of attending the opening ceremony on Friday. Anthony shared his thoughts:
“As the project director, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to have served as the designers for this truly impactful infrastructure project. Seeing the vision come to life and open to the public is the ultimate reward. This project, running from Cross Guns Bridge to North Strand Road, represents much more than a new path. It is a vital piece of the city’s active travel network, providing a safe, high-quality, sustainable transport link from Blanchardstown right into the city centre, while significantly enhancing the amenity for over 1,000 local residents.”
A complex delivery that we were proud to design:
– It required careful design of over 1,000 linear metres of strengthened towpaths and 500 linear metres of ramps to ensure accessibility and respect the Canal’s industrial heritage.
– The project also included a new Canal bridge and critical utility upgrades, adding essential resilience to the North Inner City’s electrical grid.
– We worked hard to ensure high-quality finishes and sympathetic development within the sensitive parkland setting.
A huge thank you to our client, Dublin City Council Active Travel Division, and the sponsoring agency, the National Transport Authority. We also commend the contractor, Jons Civil Engineering Company Ltd, for their professionalism during the 33-month build, navigating complex stakeholder environments like Croke Park, Waterways Ireland, and Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail.
OCSC was honoured to share the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ray McAdam, and the Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe. We are proud of the OCSC team’s design contribution and excited for the positive change the Royal Canal Greenway will bring to Dublin.
