Today, we bid a fond farewell to our esteemed Civil and Structural Director, Andy O’Brien, as he embarks on his well-deserved retirement.
Andy’s remarkable career began as a Junior Draughtsman at Rooney McLoughlin Associates (RMA) Consulting Engineers, juggling full-time work with evening studies at Bolton Street. His commitment saw him complete both a technician course and a Diploma in Civil Engineering, all while gaining invaluable knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel detailing and design. Andy quickly progressed to undertake full structural designs and encouraged by his mentors, earned a full-time degree in Structural Engineering from Bolton Street. Never one to stop learning, he added a Diploma in Project Management from Trinity College to his arsenal, eventually becoming a Chartered Member of both the Institution of Engineers of Ireland (IEI) and the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE)-as well as Fellow of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland.
Andy has been with O’Connor Sutton Cronin since 1991, leaving a profound mark on our company and the industry. As a hands-on director, he has led numerous developer-led residential, mixed-use, and commercial projects, driven major renovations, and delivered landmark shopping centres, hotels, and data centres-particularly enjoying the challenge and innovation of large-scale data centre work.
We would like to thank you for your years of leadership, expertise, and dedication to O’Connor Sutton Cronin. Your legacy will be felt for many years to come. We wish you all the best for this next chapter-your well-earned retirement!
Please join us in congratulating Andy and wishing him all the best for the future.
