Work at the Ashford Castle hotel included the construction of an independent energy center and associated infrastructural works linking to the castle.

  • Phase 1: Infrastructure upgrade, Victorian wing, and front of house redevelopment, construction of Cinema and Billiards room. The first phase of the works comprised the design of a central energy centre external to the castle. Design works within the castle and ancillary buildings included water services, soils and wastes, ventilation and air conditioning, heating fire damper installation, electrical distribution and containment, general services, general lighting, lighting control systems, emergency lighting, radio fire alarm and communication services to the Victorian wing and lightning protection to the entire castle.
  • Phase 2: Refurbishment of the east wing bedrooms, construction of a new garage, staff accommodation, and a coffee shop/ retail unit.
  • Phase 3: Construction of a new Spa facility comprising a Swimming pool and treatment rooms.
  • Phase 4: Provision of a new staff car park and access roads, located adjacent to the staff accommodation.

Other works to the hotel involved:

  • The complete strip out of internal bedrooms uncovered the existing fabric of the castle which required complete structural inspections and remedial actions as applicable.
  • The construction of a 2-storey billiards room and cinema room to blend in with the existing castle stone finish.
  • Separation of the existing combined internal foul and surface water system.
  • Design of a 2-storey over basement swimming pool and spa, clad with curved ornate glass panels.
  • Conversion of existing damp cellars into wine-tasting areas.
  • A new staff car park of 144 spaces.
  • The project also included the construction of an 8-space garage and wash-down area and the refurbishment of ancillary buildings into staff accommodation and café/ shop.
