O’Connor Sutton Cronin was appointed as Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers for the Southmere Civil and Library Building, which forms part of the Southmere Village Development in Thameshead, undertaken by Peabody Land and delivered by Durkan Ltd.

  • The Southmere Civic and Library Building is located within the new Civic Square and adjacent to the Southmere Lake, and is the beating heart of Southmere Village.
  • It is home to a 21st Century Library and learning space, located on the ground floor, and a variety of flexible community spaces, designed to satisfy the needs of an ever-changing modern society.
  • This building was the subject of a RIBA competition, which resulted in the creation of a hybrid sustainable building, designed to resemble a swan’s nest.
  • The structural scheme comprises the use of Glulam, CLT, and Structural Steel elements for the superstructure and is supported by precast-driven piled foundations.
