O’Connor Sutton Cronin provided civil and structural engineering services for the delivery of a new pedestrian overbridge crossing the operational railway line at Donabate, Co. Dublin. The bridge creates a safe and accessible connection across the rail corridor, improving local pedestrian permeability while removing the need for users to interact directly with railway infrastructure.
The design required careful coordination within a live railway environment, with particular consideration given to structural clearances, railway possessions, construction methodology, public safety and interfaces with ongoing rail operations. OCSC provided engineering input to the bridge structure, foundations and access arrangements, ensuring the proposed solution was durable, practical and capable of being constructed with minimal disruption to railway services and surrounding users.
Our team also supported stakeholder coordination, buildability reviews and the management of key design and operational constraints. Long-term inspection, maintenance and safe access requirements were considered throughout the design process.
The completed scheme represents an important local infrastructure improvement, providing a robust pedestrian crossing that strengthens connectivity and supports safer, more convenient movement throughout the Donabate area.
