The Grand Canal Lock C4 Mespil Road Refurbishment 2020 contract comprises heritage masonry repairs and landscaping to the canal lock chamber and surrounding area. The site is located on the Grand Canal Circular Line, between Mespil Road and Wilton Terrace, Co. Dublin.
- Works to the structure were treated as a conservation/restoration activity, with care taken to maintain the original. All construction works reused existing materials, where possible, and any new materials were selected to match the existing ones as closely as possible.
- O’Connor Sutton Cronin & Associates were appointed by Waterways Ireland to deliver the refurbishment works to the Lock on the Grand Canal. The scheme included the rebuilding of both walls of the lock which included the cleaning, repairs, and replacement of masonry stones utilizing stones and mortars in keeping with the existing structure.
- OCSC worked with the Contractor in the sourcing and installation of puddle clay to replace the fill behind the masonry wall.
- The project was successfully delivered and the lock was refurbished to a very high standard with bespoke chiseled stones installed to commemorate the refurbishment works.
